The first twitter I chose to look at was Nicole Polizzi aka Snooki's from Jersey Shore. Her twitter was definitely very personal as she tweets to other cast members from the cast, talks about family, and posts pictures from her nights. The way she talks on twitter seems to be just how she talks on the show, but perhaps I watch Jersey Shore I just imagine all of her tweets in her voice. I don't really know how twitter works, so it was definitely interesting to see how everyone tweets back and forth showing their conversations to the world. Snooki has never been one to shy away from the spotlight, and being on a reality show she would probably feel weird not sharing her whole life with the world. She talks a lot about family and her boyfriend, making most of her tweets appeal to the audiences pathos. She also posts whenever she has a book signing or anything promoting herself, using kairos.
The second twitter I looked at was for Jamie Lynn Spears. Since she dropped of the sphere of celebrity when she had her baby, I think her twitter is more focused on the fan base she had two years ago when she was pregnant. All of her posts are about family, and she posts pictures of her and her daughter. She uses a lot of pathos to appeal to her followers. It seems that most of the stuff she posts is proving to people that she is a good mom, because she tweets about visiting her daughters pre-school class and always posts pictures of them together. While she may not be the biggest celebrity on twitter, or at all anymore, she is showing via twitter how happy she is having a family.
These two celebrities could not be more different. At about the time Jamie lynn Spears was having her daughter, Snooki was just entering reality star fame. Snooki tweets a lot at her friends, while Jamie Lynn uses her twitter for posting her own things, and not really re-tweeting or tweeting at anyone. They both seem very personable just by looking at their twitters because they post a lot of stuff about their personal lives which makes them seem very relatable.
Social Media is becoming increasingly important for celebrities who are afraid of losing their status, just getting started in their career, or those who just want to post funny thoughts for their fans every once in a while. Twitter allows celebrities to post little insights into their real everyday lives, unlike tabloid magazines which are all skewed perceptions of their lives. It adds another reason for people to become obsessed with celebrities because they feel "connected" to them. Fans are able to follow their every move in a whole new way.
