Celebrity Twitter!

Currently I am following Oh Land and Eminem, both are musicians who have cult like followers.

Oh Land seems to have a good social media presence being available on Facebook and Twitter.  Her most recent update on Facebook and Twitter are linked together and in her own voice.  However, there are updates on her Facebook page where it seems like a handler is speaking on behalf of her band.  While her Twitter is solely her voice.  Her Twitter is more appealing to her audience because it appeals to their pathos, they get to see her sense of humor, likes and dislikes.  Opposed to her Facebook where it leads more way into her ethos showing videos of her explaining her style.  The visuals on both sites are of her album cover.  It’s her in a fashionable top surrounded by neon lit paper houses in a circle framing the rest of her body.  She gives off a mysterious vibe and it’s definitely complimented by the black background on her Twitter page.  The way her Facebook page looks is limited by the fact that it’s on Facebook.  She also responds to her audiences and mentions other celebrities in passing comments.

On Eminem’s Twitter, his background is that of a red circle with a white cross in the middle, which symbolizes doctor in the mind of his audience.  He might be asking that the public help donate time and money to help Japan, since his latest tweet is about that, or promoting his new single “I Need a Doctor,” with Dr. Dre.  Most of Eminem’s tweets are thanking his fans or talking about his latest works, which bolster his ethos, but do very little for his pathos.  But this keeps in line with what his audience knows, that Eminem is a no nonsense kind of guy, but it would be refreshing for him to possibly have a handler who might insert funny tidbits or something that gives him more of a human-like quality.  Eminem mentions other celebrities, but only through things that they have collaborated on together, and less a shout out, like Demi Moore does to Ashton Kutcher.

Eminem’s Twitter and Facebook page are little out of date when it comes to the social media, especially in comparison to Oh Land, who’s post are only a few hours old, his are about a week old.  Interestingly enough, while Oh Land’s Twitter has more of a personal feel, Eminem’s seems to be nothing but business related really.  Their Facebook’s are similar in they’re both promoting videos.

Social media helps celebrities connect to their fan base on a more personal level.  It also helps the fans feel like the celebrities are more relatable and sometimes just like them.
