Reason: Her influence can be seen everywhere in the pop music world and while many dislike her music, it is largely ignored how influential she has been in changing the pop music scene.
Evidence: Paparazzi/tabloids focus more on her clothes and performances (i.e. her career) than on her personal life (which is atypical), she is one of the first pop artists to use "performance art," she has brought publicity stunts to a whole new level, she has been copied by many artists, her outrageous costumes have caused many pop artists to feel the need to compete by having equally ridiculous costumes, her honesty about drug use and her sex life, the themes of her music (atypical--do not focus on love like most other pop artists), she uses her music to support causes (Born this Way written in support of LGBT community), She was named as Time Magazine's most influential artist in 2010
This deserves attention becaues many are on the fence about her and think her persona is a facade and she is just a marketing expert. The paper will explain, whether you love her or hate her, how influential she has been in the pop music world
Audience: This will be directed at both Gaga fans and those that are skeptical about Gaga and want to know more.
Challenge: The counter argument to my argument will be the greatest challenge. Many believe she has copied/been influenced by other artists and believe that her work and performances are neither original nor influential.
My research will consist of me reading opinion articles on the internet on Lady Gaga, watching other pop artists and noticing how they have been influenced by her, and will also include my personal opinions and experience
