Since I don’t have twitter, this was actually the first time that I had ever been to the Twitter page. However, it was still interesting to move from one celebrity to the next. I first went to Tim Tebow’s page and then after reading some of his posts I came across a post back to Kurt Warner’s, so I decided to choose them for my blog entry.
Tebow’s twitter page looks very people friendly. To the lefthand side there is a picture of Tebow standing and smiling. In addition to this, his posts are very clean and inviting. Through this, he is setting a tone that is welcoming to his fans. Tebow is known to be a sociable and charming athlete, and this page does nothing but confirm this assessment. It looks as if Tebow updates several times a day and the last tweet that he posted was about his family. By stating that he had an awesome time with his family, he is showing that family is something that he values. As a viewer, this is something this may come off as surprisingly positive because there are many celebrities in which this isn’t the case. Next, with each entry that is not directed at someone, Tebow does a good job to make the fans who are reading his posts feel welcome. In addition, it also looks as if Tebow hosts his own contest with the questions he posts in order to interact with the general public. The winner from the contest gets to be followed by Tebow himself. Tebow is probably doing this to get the general public involved and to also show fans that he cares about them as well. By interacting with fans in this manner, he is showing that he is willing to take time out of his day to have some fun with the public. Tebow does a good job in portraying ethos throughout his tweets. This is done through the rhetorical techniques mentioned before. Tebow already has a good reputation and credibility, and through his twitter he allows the audience to validate their evaluation.
Warner’s twitter page has a professional look because his picture and background complement each other to make one full page. On the lefthand side, Warner is in his football gear and pointing his fingers up to God. This is important to note because Warner could have chosen out of many other pictures, but instead he chose this one over the others. Warner already has a reputation that he is religious, and so this goes to sharpen what is already thought of about him. Through this and through his posts, Warner uses a sense of ethos as well. This is because when the general public sees this picture, they can feel a sense of confidence in their opinion and of the information that they have heard. Throughout Warner’s entries, he responds to celebrities, but he also responds to the general public as well. It is also seen that Warner is a family man because he has many posts that are about his children. This can tie under pathos because everyone loves children, and who doesn’t love a family man?
Kurt Warner and Tim Tebow were two of the more interesting “tweeters” to choose because their friendship ended up showing up on the page. The two were seen having a conversation in which both parties were active. The posts back to each other were positive and encouraging. Both Warner and Tebow’s twitter posts seem genuine and real. From this, it is evident that the two probably are the ones who posts the tweets themselves. Warner and Tebow both have fun pages to go to because they respond back to their fans, other celebrities, and the general public. Also, both Warner and Tebow are known to be prominent Christian athletes and this can be seen through their twitters as well. Their twitter pages are clean and the general public can tell that there must be something different about the two.
In our day and age, social media is something that affects teenagers and grown-ups alike. Entertainment is something that people of all ages take part in, and is something that is known to be fun and relaxing. In light of this, getting to keep up with different celebrities is something that falls under this category. On the flip side, social mediums such as twitter allow celebrities of all different ages to participate in connecting with their friends and fans. This is because celebrities who are just teenagers to grown up celebrities with children can be seen having twitter. Although some celebrities use their twitters to publicize themselves and gain a bigger fan-base, Tebow and Warner make it seem that there some celebrities that just enjoy it as well. The use of twitter allows celebrities to show a side of them that the public may not normally be able to see.
