I can honestly say I do not actively try to keep up on celebrity gossip, but I willingly admit that when a friend tells me about some celebrity scandal or when I read some juicy tidbit in a fashion magazine, I am always interested in the information. The article “Seeing by Starlight: Celebrity Obsession" described it well when it quoted Bonnie Fuller saying that “we will never get bored by star gossip” because “that would be like getting bored with information about family and friends!” I think that is why I personally find celebrity gossip so fascinating. I am constantly exposed to these celebrities when I look at magazines, go to the movies, watch TV, or read my favorite magazines. Eventually I have begun to feel as if they are acquaintances in my circle of friends, and therefore I am always interested in their lives.

The article “Adrift” about Lindsay Lohan was filled with contradictions and accusations. It accused Lindsay of drug addiction, partying and lying, and then the article would contradict this with a quote her trying to explain that the accusations were false. It seemed like they weren’t even giving her the proper chance to defend herself. They instead portray her as an addict and a pathological liar. The interview itself appeared to be taking advantage of her by showing no intention of defending her or helping her gain the publics trust back. This was shown when the article quoted Lindsay saying, “and I’m not making excuses…” and then immediately replied with, “but in a way she still was.” Then, the photos included seem to completely contradict their accusations. She is dressed like an old Hollywood actress with a pristine, classic look. She appears innocent and care free, which is not how she appears in the article. Although I believe Lindsay deserves the mistrust in some ways, I also believe that it is unfair that even when she kindly agrees to do an interview with a magazine, she is still exploited.
