Last week I was at grocery store checkout line with my mom, when she saw a few celebrity tabloids and didn’t hesitate picking one up and flipping through it. I quickly rattled off a few celebrity names that I had read were pregnant or getting married. Then I stopped and thought about what I had just said and announced that, “I know way too much about other people’s lives.” Then of course I laughed it off because I knew that it was true but I didn’t think it was a problem. After reading the article “Seeing by Starlight: Celebrity Obsession” I realized that could potentially develop into a problem. Could I become so obsessed with people that I don’t know that I don’t seek out real relationships with other people because their lives aren’t as glamorous? While I don’t think I’m headed in that direction that’s something that I could think about it. My friends and I frequent the celebrity blog of Perez Hilton and then share our stories about what we read. We connect with each other by somehow feeling connected with celebrities.

While reading the article “Adrift…” I felt that Lindsay was portrayed as a fallen star. I thought that it was interesting that pictures show Lindsay as this sleek Hollywood starlet trying to channel her inner Marilyn Monroe but he author’s depiction of her wasn’t on the same level. She was described as smelling like cigarettes and her spray tan was “unnatural sienna”, but also she mentioned that her “all-American beauty” was shining through. The author felt that Lindsay was making many excuses throughout the interview and in other interviews but she had never actually stepped up to make an improvement. From this article I feel that readers are shown how easy it is from a celebrity to get caught up in the spotlight and they think it will last forever, and that there are always people that want those celebrities to fail and it’s usually the media so that there is an interesting story to report.
