I guess I’ve always known that I’ve been a sucker for “celebrity gossip.” But after reading these articles, I guess it has been acknowledged and confirmed that I am one of the reasons that the tabloids stay in business. The article, “Seeing by starlight: Celebrity Obsession,” brings up many different points of view that I could see holding true. Watching television shows and keeping up with the plot and characters, could give someone the sense of being a part of something. Not only does it give people things to talk about, it also lets people feel a part of something. I know that I keep up with Modern Family, Glee, and Grey’s Anatomy, and that by doing so, it does indeed make me feel a part of something more than just my typical everyday life. I get to live vicariously through the characters. It lets me be a part of situations that I have never been apart of and see situations that I probably will continue to never see. However, I must say that I have tried to pick up shows half way through and it is just somehow not the same. Being able to watch the television show from the beginning and being able to experience everything the characters goes through from the beginning also allows me to completely relate to them and to see behind some of the decisions they make later on in the show. Who knows, I think I may never encounter some of those events or decisions, but what if one day I do have to? I may end up being fully prepared.

After reading the article in Vanity Fair about Lindsay Lohan, I still can’t help but feel frustrated with her decisions. Her decisions can be viewed as being very poor and quite immature. And this is not to say that the article doesn’t portray to us the “real” Lindsay Lohan. The article provides direct quotes for her. She does say that she wants to change quite a few times and she does throw several curse words in there. However, would things be different if we were supposed to empathize with celebrities rather than frowning upon their decisions? Would things be different if the celebrities could feel the support of their “fans” and the audiences of their movies?
