Pastiche

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines pastiche as "a literary, artistic, musical, or architectural work that imitates the style of previous work." A pastiche is usually an imitation of some type of famous work that most people recognize. The first work that came to my mind was Andy Warhol's pop art paintings of celebrities which are copied by many artists today. Warhol is most famous for his Marilyn Monroe portraits, but he also mass produced images in eccentric colors of celebrities such as Elvis Presley and Jackie Onassis.

Today, many people create paintings similar to Warhol's pop art portraits. These type of paintings are referred to as "Warhol art." You can easily search the Internet and find websites that will take your own picture and mimic Warhol's style. Most computer programs also have an option into turning a simple photo into one of the pop art paintings. Warhol's famous silkscreen paintings are imitated by many other artists and have become iconic, making them into a pastiche.
