Pastiche, n.: A novel, poem, painting, etc., incorporating several different styles, or made up of parts drawn from a variety of sources. A work, esp. of literature, created in the style of someone or something else.
Parody, n.: A literary composition modeled on and imitating another work, esp. a composition in which the characteristic style and themes of a particular author or genre are satirized by being applied to inappropriate or unlikely subjects, or are otherwise exaggerated for comic effect. In later use extended to similar imitations in other artistic fields, as music, painting, film, etc.
Homage, n. : An act of homage; Acknowledgement of superiority in respect of rank, worth, beauty, etc.; reverence, dutiful respect, or honor shown.
Basically a parody is a funny imitation of something, a pastiche is something made in the style of something else, and homage is an act of honor. I found homage interesting. When I think of homage, I immediately think of all the award shows honoring entertainment legends. At these award shows new artists honor more distinguished artists by covering their songs.
In the video below, Beyoncé is honoring Tina Turner at the Kennedy Center Honors. This is significant to me because Tina Turner is a living singing legend, which is exactly what Beyoncé, aspires to be. In my opinion, Beyoncé does a great job at honoring Tina Turner in this video. She sings and dances phenomenally; Tina Turner seem to approve also! Check it out!!!
