Parody

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines "parody" as "a literary or musical work in which the style of an author or work is closely imitated for comic effect or in ridicule."

In my opinion, one cannot discuss the art of parody without mentioning Weird Al Yankovic. Weird Al has recorded numerous parodies, all of them humorous remakes of popular songs in our culture.

Weird Al also creates videos to go along with his parodies, which makes them even more popular. He has sold millions of albums throughout his career, which has been largely based on these parodies.

One famous example of a Weird Al Yankovic parody is "Eat It." The original song "Beat It," is by Michael Jackson. The tune of "Eat It" is the same as the original song, and the parody's music video contains several aspects that are similar to the original video. However, Weird Al turns Jackson's song into one about not complaining about what you are given to eat, with a very humorous effect.
