Celebrity Politics
In short, Celebrities can be involved in whatever political policies they want to be. If they choose, or if they believe in something, then they can advocate for it and will likely influence many people's stance on that matter. A lot of celebrities will talk about their political stances and its front page news. This is due to 24-hour news. Nowadays, anything and everything will be reported. Sometimes, not that celebrities deserve the preferrential treatment in the first place because a lot of them do not deserve to be talking about the issue that they are, politicians will be treated like celebrities and especially in times of political races, every single move they make are scrutinized to a t, because people want to make a correct decision with their votes. In addition, if a celebrity takes a stance for or against a political candidate, they can greatly influence the polls. In the long run, I don't think celebrities will present a huge problem to politics and our government as a whole, because, despite the reverence with which we treat our celebrity culture, most people have enough common sense to vote for who THEY believe is the correct candidate, not who their favorite celebrity's is. However, we need to be careful as to let these celebrities just advocate things and then we believe in them, as a lot of times, as is mentioned in the Angelina Jolie article, we don't know if these celebrities are "smart, smart for Hollywood, or not smart even by Hollywood standards."(Weisberg)
